Rich

As the summer has come to a close and the trees are dropping their leaves, I look forward to another year working with our owners, our staff team as well as the great people we support at Semiahmoo House Society.

However, before closing the door completely on our fiscal year 2013-2014 year, I would be remiss if I did not mention the contributions that our departing directors from the board have made over the years: Howard Kettner, Manjeet Baksho, Gina Cuthbert and Jim Dudar. If it was not for the hard work and dedication that these directors put into the board’s work, we would certainly be wanting today.

I should call out that Jim Dudar served the board and the Society in a number of different capacities for three terms that concluded in June of 2014. His wealth of knowledge in dealing with residential development helped enormously in setting up housing for people we support. Jim’s contributions to Semiahmoo House Society, The Semiahmoo Foundation and Peninsula Estates can never be measured.

I would also recognize Gina Cuthbert for her services to the board over six years by dedicating her time to helping and directing the board’s work. Gina’s belief is that people deserve the opportunity to be respected, happy, healthy and contributing members of society. Gina was always passionate about creating a community where people are embraced for their uniqueness, are safe, and are welcomed in a caring and supportive environment. Again, Gina leaves behind a wonderful footprint that we will all strive to follow.

I think it is also in order to express our thanks to the former Chair of the Board, Matt Houghton, for leading the board for the past year. Matt’s business is growing and he had to step aside from the chair, but he still remains with us as a well-educated director.

I would like to extend a large welcome to the following additions to the Board of Directors of Semiahmoo House Society: Alex Magnussen, Robert Downs and Terisita Aristizabal. I look forward to working with you and engaging your expertise.
