It’s interesting how themes have a way to emerge for the Treehouse newsletter. This quarter, most articles have a common topic and that is going above and beyond.
While some of the articles credit our staff, both the written word and the buzz around here demonstrate that going above and beyond also describes the achievements of the people they support. This is possible because of the commitment of our staff members to focus on ability and mine talent.
For instance, a couple of staff members with our Personal Development Services have led a mosaic class for a good part of last year, resulting in the development of gifted artists and their masterpieces. The work is amazingly beautiful as you will notice by viewing the images in this newsletter.
In addition to their leadership, I must recognize our staff members’ tenacity. They approached me last summer looking for letters of support requesting local retailers to donate ceramic tiles. It took weeks and months to gather the tiles and guide people to produce the stunning artwork.
What’s more, they convinced our leadership team to embark on a stairway beautification project by applying mosaic artwork on the risers. They and their team of artists are busy planning the ambitious project which will leave a lasting legacy of the immense talent of the people whose enthusiasm cheer up The Treehouse.
It’s because of staff members like them, that people with developmental disabilities can learn new skills, express themselves artistically, go above and beyond and lead significant lives. In the months to come, I look forward to report on the progress of their beautiful collaboration.
(I’m not able to name the two staff members as they wish to remain anonymous. This is how humble and dedicated they are.)
