The thing that always stands out to me is how people are transformed after coming to SHS. They may come here quiet and withdrawn or angry and loud but within a short time they blossom.
One such story is David’s (not his real name):
When I enter the building in the morning David is sure to greet me. He’s always pleasant and welcoming, and we usually exchange some humorous (often sarcastic) banter. The David I first met many years ago seemed quite the opposite; quiet, unapproachable, unpredictable; certainly not smiling. David’s transformation was due largely to his Mt. Kilimanjaro experience. He trained very hard with a staff member and a volunteer personal trainer and made it to the top!! His confidence level and social skills rocketed after this huge achievement.
SHS believes in people, fosters their dreams, and provides unique and amazing opportunities.
