Once again, our Eco-Heroes donated $1,700.00 to ChildCare International. Tracy Sheppard and Roland Swityk presented the cheque to Rod Forrest, Executive Director at ChildCare International. The funds will go toward providing much needed support to two young women living with disabilities in other countries.

Joan Baldwin, Support Worker at Semiahmoo House Society, who organized and attended the meeting, reported that Tracie and Roland were very proud during the cheque presentation and excited about sponsoring a new young lady, Selina Tongani who lives in Kenya. “We all feel very humbled and honored contributing to such a sincere, caring, and devoted organization being so committed in humanitarian causes,” says Joan.

Lorna Parker of ChildCare International expresses her appreciation in an e-mail to Joan by writing: “It was so good to be together with you, Tracie and Roland last Thursday! Joan, what an honour it is for us to partner with you and your wonderful team of caring, compassionate individuals! We are truly blessed by your kindness and willingness to provide for Nadege and now Selina! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!”

Our Eco-Heroes are so dedicated to giving to the charity that, in order to generate the cash, they are willing to put up with the grueling and dirty aspects of collecting deposit recycling items all over the community, sorting them all and returning them to the depot.  To collect $1,700.00 in deposits is no small feat. It requires a lot of work that entails processing an enormous quantity of cans and bottles worth 5 to 10 cents.

Upon learning of the achievements of our Eco-Heroes, Lise Boughen, Director of Programs, says, “That is absolutely amazing!  It is a dirty job but certainly not thankless.  What a wonderful opportunity for individuals to work together to enhance the life of someone else. “

If you would like to encourage our Eco-Heroes by donating your deposit recycling items, please contact Joan Baldwin at
