It was just about a year ago that the Personal Development (PD) Mosaic Tiling class began their journey to create mosaics for the risers of one of the staircases at Semiahmoo House.
We have just completed our first installation of mosaics on 11 steps. We’re one quarter of the way through! What we thought might be a ten-year project is actually moving along quite quickly.
Last November we started to communicate with Southridge art teacher, Suzy Baranszky-Job about having some of her art students create a design for the stairs. She and students Aleksandra Golos, Sarah Sutanto and Jessy Sidhu, created this beautiful design for us to implement. We are so grateful for their help.
We also want to thank the businesses that donated to this project. The poster of the drawing, in its actual size and colour, was printed at a great discount by Minuteman Press on 24th Ave in Surrey. The tiles for the project were a generous donation from Tile Town in Cloverdale.
We are still looking for more brightly coloured tiles for additonal projects. If anyone has or finds tiles that might fit the bill, please let us know.
