3 people smiling at the beach. The person in the middle is in a robust beach wheelchair.

Abneet, who uses a wheelchair, went to the beach and into the water for the first time last summer. This was made possible due to the beach accessible wheelchair that the Self-Advocates of Semiahmoo were able to obtain as a result of their fundraising efforts. Because of our generous donors, she was able to overcome barriers and join in new experiences with her friends.

Smiling man with dark complexion. His name is Alok. He is on the sidewalk outside and wears an orange shirt.

Alok and his family have recently moved to BC from India. Through his attendance at Recreation and Leisure programs, Alok has demonstrated a positive attitude, passion for life, and great leadership potential. With his gregarious nature and a great attitude, he has made some good friends at Recreation and Leisure.

As a result of the services offered by Semiahmoo House Society, many people with disabilities and their families report having life-transforming experiences and an enhanced quality of life. This is because our staff is committed to delivering services in a person-centered way that takes into consideration the holistic desires, wants, and needs of the participants by supporting them to direct their lives and make their own informed decisions.

Person-centered practices are also employed by the staff of our Recreation and Leisure Services which offer a wide range of recreational programs adapted to the unique needs and abilities of youths and adults with disabilities, enabling them to participate in the same activities as other members of the community. These activities include music, theatre, dance, fitness, sports, camps and travel. The participants report feeling more confident, engaged, and included, as they try new activities and discover fresh interests in a fun and encouraging environment.

Any contribution, no matter how or what helps the inclusion of persons with disabilities in our community. Please donate by using the links at the top of this page.
