Community Services: Community Development

Community Development Services exists to provide another option for people other than traditional day services. We provide opportunities for people to be leaders, to be supported in their personal and professional development which involves accountability, responsibility and teamwork. What makes us different is the flexibility in hours and the mix of group and one on one support for each person as they decide which opportunities and projects to take on. We believe that people need to be making their own decisions and choosing their path in a way that honours their core values, abilities, interests and level of support at home. We value relationships, trust, communication, teamwork and respect. We believe that it’s possible to have a world in which people with disabilities are leading their own movement.

UNITI’s Community Development Services Team has been able to support people with disabilities to be leaders. Community Development Committee members are attending meetings, public speaking, and sitting on committees as leaders in politics, even influencing high-level decisions, winning multiple awards, pursuing post-secondary education and holding corporate memberships with organizations such as Rotary and Resilient Women in Business. See how they are valued and respected by local MLA’s, City Counsellors and Mayors, being cordially invited to participate as equals.
